Affiliate disclosure
Bog & Briar is reader-funded. Here is exactly how, and exactly what it does not change.
The short version
When you click a buy link on this site and purchase something, the retailer may pay us a small commission. It costs you nothing extra — the price you pay is the same as if you had navigated there yourself.
Amazon Associates
Bog & Briar is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Our Amazon tracking tag is imm-bogbriar-20.
Amazon is currently the only retailer we have an affiliate relationship with. Where we mention a manufacturer’s own website — LaCrosse, Danner, Muck and so on — those are plain citation links for specifications. We earn nothing from them and they are never presented as a buy button.
What commission does not change
- It does not decide rankings. Products are scored against a published rubric on warmth, waterproofing, fit, durability and value. Commission is not one of the criteria.
- It does not stop us saying “buy nothing”. Several pages here conclude that the honest answer is to buy gaiters instead of boots, buy socks instead of a warmer boot, or change your socks at the stand and buy nothing.
- It does not stop us pointing out a cheaper option. Buyer-first beats commission: where a cheaper product is the better buy, that is what we rank first.
- Some pages carry no links at all. Our squeaking-boot guide is unmonetized on purpose — the honest fixes there are to dry the boot, move the insole and re-lace it, so attaching products would be tenuous.
How prices on this site work
- Prices come from the Amazon Creators API, refreshed daily, and carry the date they were last verified.
- A price older than 48 hours disappears and the page falls back to “check price”. We would rather show you nothing than a stale number.
- No price is typed into our content. There is no price field in our content model, so a figure cannot be hand-entered and then forgotten.
- The price on Amazon at the moment you check out is the price. Prices change frequently and ours may differ by the time you click.
How our links work
Buy links route through a redirect on this domain (/go/) which applies the affiliate tag and forwards you to the retailer. This keeps the tag in one place and lets us change a destination without rewriting content. Those links carry rel="sponsored nofollow" and the /go/ path is excluded from search indexing.
What we do not do
- We do not accept payment for a review or a ranking position.
- We do not accept free products in exchange for coverage.
- We do not publish sponsored posts.
- We do not claim hands-on testing. See about.
- We do not invent reviews, ratings or review counts.
FTC compliance
This disclosure is made in accordance with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s endorsement and testimonial guidance. A short disclosure also appears above the first buy link on every page that carries one, and an #ad label sits beneath every buy button.
