Editorial policy
The rules this site is written under. They are specific on purpose, so you can hold us to them.
Editorial independence
- No brand pays for placement or for a favorable position. Not for a spot in a roundup, not for a ranking, not for a mention.
- No sponsored posts. There is no advertising on this site other than the affiliate links described in our disclosure.
- No brand sees a page before it publishes. No advance review, no approval, no corrections negotiated in advance.
- We accept no free product. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed on the page in question and here.
- Commission does not determine ranking. We earn the same rate regardless of brand. The checkable version of that promise: pages on this site recommend the cheaper option when it is better, recommend gaiters instead of boots for a lot of readers, and in several places tell you to buy nothing.
Sourcing standards
Every factual claim on this site falls into one of these categories, and each has a rule:
| Claim type | Required attribution |
|---|---|
| Insulation, height, temperature rating, weight | Cited as the manufacturer’s specification, with the brand named. Never as our measurement. |
| Material or construction detail | Manufacturer spec, or a documented linkable source. |
| “Buyers report...” | Labeled as buyer feedback. Never as our testing. No invented review counts, no scraped star ratings. |
| Snake-bite protection claims | The most safety-sensitive content here. We state what the maker claims, note that no independent standard exists, and never imply any boot is bite-proof. |
| Temperature guidance in our charts | Labeled on the page as general guidance synthesized from published ratings plus activity level - not laboratory data. |
| Health and safety statements | Attributed to a public-health or clinical source with a link. We give no medical advice and are not qualified to. |
| Price | Live data feed only, with the verification date shown. Never in body copy. |
The zero-fabrication rule. No estimated, remembered or placeholder data appears anywhere on this site. If a figure cannot be sourced, the page says so or omits it. That applies to specs, prices, ratings, review counts and dates alike.
Who writes, and what AI has to do with it
One named author: Mike M., owner of Iron Mako Media. Every page carries that byline and the structured data on every page names the same person. There are no ghostwritten pages attributed to invented personas, and no fictional “editorial team.”
Where software assists with drafting or formatting, the editorial responsibility and the byline stay with the named author, and every factual claim is held to the sourcing rules above regardless of how a sentence was first drafted. We are not going to pretend a publishing operation in 2026 uses no tools; we are also not going to let that dilute who is accountable for what is on the page.
Corrections
- How to report one. Email contact@bogandbriar.com or use the contact form. Tell us the page and what is wrong; a source helps but is not required.
- What we commit to. We read every correction, and we aim to respond within a few business days. Where you are right, we fix it.
- Material corrections are noted on the page with a date rather than silently edited. A typo or a broken link gets fixed quietly; a wrong specification, a wrong recommendation or a safety-relevant error gets a dated note.
- Every page shows a real last-updated date, driven by the content rather than by the deploy. A page that has not changed does not get a fresh date to look current.
Review and update cadence
- Prices: daily. Automatically, from the live feed, with the date shown. Numbers older than 48 hours disappear rather than going stale.
- Product availability: as the feed reports it. Where a listing resolves but has no buyable offer, the page says so rather than showing a price.
- Specifications and picks: seasonally. Models get discontinued and replaced, and a roundup that recommends an unavailable boot is useless. Pages are reviewed ahead of the seasons they serve.
- Safety content: whenever guidance changes. The snake-boot pages are built on public-health guidance and manufacturer claims; if either changes, those pages change.
What this site will never publish
- A fabricated review, testimonial, quote or rating.
- A testing claim we did not perform, including any version of “in our testing.”
- An invented credential, award, tenure claim or press mention.
- A price we did not pull from live data.
- A statement that any boot is bite-proof, or any snake-protection figure without naming whose claim it is.
- Medical advice. Where a subject touches health - frostbite, snakebite, foot infections, circulation - we point at a public-health or clinical source and say we are not qualified.
