Best hunting boots for wide feet
Most hunting boots come in one width. Filtering on width first eliminates most of the market in a good way - and saves you two returns.

If your feet are wide, you already know the drill: the boot you want comes in D only, you buy a size up to compensate, and now you have a boot that is too long and still too narrow at the ball. Length and width are independent, and sizing up does not fix width.
So filter on width first. It cuts the market down hard, and what is left is genuinely wearable.
The picks
Boots in real wide widths or on roomy lasts - with the pull-on option for feet that defeat lace-ups.
#1 · Wide feet in cold weather

KEEN Revel 4 Mid Polar
KEENKEEN's last is the widest in this registry, and the Polar version adds real insulation - the combination that solves a wide-footed cold-weather problem.
| Insulation | KEEN.WARM insulation (manufacturer) |
|---|---|
| Temperature rating | -25F (manufacturer) |
| Shaft height | Mid |
| Upper | Leather and textile |
| Waterproofing | KEEN.DRY membrane (manufacturer) |
What it does well
- A genuinely roomy toe box without going up a size
- Published temperature rating, which most boots do not give you
Where it falls short
- A winter boot rather than a hunting boot - the styling says so
- Mid height limits water depth and brush protection

#2 · Wide-ish feet that need a hiker

#ad How we are funded · Price as of October 6, 2026
Lowa Renegade EVO GTX Mid
LowaThe most-sold hiking boot in its class for a reason: a forgiving last, a genuine Gore-Tex membrane, and almost no break-in.
| Insulation | None (uninsulated) |
|---|---|
| Shaft height | Mid |
| Upper | Nubuck leather |
| Waterproofing | Gore-Tex (manufacturer) |
| Widths | Standard and wide offered |
What it does well
- Available in a true wide, which rules most hunting boots out of contention
- Comfortable immediately
Where it falls short
- Uninsulated and mid-height - a three-season scouting boot only
- Nubuck needs treating to survive wet brush

#3 · A full-fit rubber boot that walks

#ad How we are funded · Price as of October 6, 2026
Irish Setter MudTrek 17-inch
Irish SetterIrish Setter's rubber boot, built on a full-fit last rather than the loose tube most pull-ons use - which is why it walks better than its height suggests.
| Insulation | Not published by manufacturer |
|---|---|
| Shaft height | 17 in |
| Upper | Rubber over neoprene |
| Fit | Full fit, pull-on |
| Widths | Standard and wide offered |
Specifications per Irish Setter published specifications.
What it does well
- A wide option, which almost no knee-high rubber boot offers
- The full-fit last means less heel slip, so fewer blisters on a long walk-in
Where it falls short
- Insulation varies by listing; check before buying for cold
- Tighter fit over a very heavy sock than a gusseted boot

- Waterproofing
- 9.0

#4 · All-day walking in the cold

Danner Pronghorn 800g
Danner800g in Danner's Pronghorn platform, which is built around a supportive midsole rather than a soft one. The boot to buy if your hunt is measured in miles.
| Insulation | 800g |
|---|---|
| Shaft height | Not published by manufacturer |
| Upper | Leather and nylon |
| Waterproofing | Gore-Tex (manufacturer) |
| Outsole | Danner Pronghorn |
Specifications per Danner published specifications.
What it does well
- One of the few insulated boots that genuinely supports a loaded pack
- Gore-Tex plus a recraftable platform - this is a multi-season purchase
- 800g walks far better than 1,000g or more
Where it falls short
- Expensive, and the wide sizes are the ones that go out of stock
- Needs a real break-in period; do not buy it the week before a hunt

#5 · Cold-weather hunts that involve walking

#ad How we are funded · Price as of October 6, 2026
Irish Setter Elk Tracker 12-inch, 1,000g
Irish Setter1,000g of insulation in a 12-inch lace-up leather boot: the combination that lets you cover ground in the cold without the sweat-then-freeze cycle a rubber pull-on forces.
| Insulation | 1,000g |
|---|---|
| Shaft height | 12 in |
| Upper | Full-grain leather |
| Waterproofing | UltraDry membrane (manufacturer) |
| Fit | Lace-up |
Specifications per Irish Setter published specifications.
What it does well
- Laces mean you can actually tension the boot to your foot, which is why it walks better than any pull-on
- 1,000g is the sweet spot for a boot you walk in and then sit in
- Leather takes a real conditioning treatment and lasts seasons longer than neoprene
Where it falls short
- Leather is not scent-free the way rubber is, and it absorbs whatever you walk through
- Needs breaking in, and the 12-inch shaft takes the longest to soften
- Water depth is limited to the top of the laces, so not a marsh boot

#6 · One boot for most of the season

#ad How we are funded · Price as of October 6, 2026
LaCrosse Alphaburly Pro 18-inch, 800g
LaCrosseThe same boot as the 1,600g with half the insulation, and for most hunters in most of the country it is the smarter buy: warm enough sitting down to about freezing, survivable walking in.
| Insulation | 800g |
|---|---|
| Shaft height | 18 in |
| Upper | Vulcanized rubber over neoprene |
| Calf fit | Adjustable back gusset |
| Liner | Removable EVA footbed |
Specifications per LaCrosse Footwear published specifications.
What it does well
- The widest usable temperature window of any boot here - roughly 20F sitting to 50F walking
- Same gusset, same rubber, same scent profile as the 1,600g version
- If you are buying one rubber boot and do not know your conditions, this is the one
Where it falls short
- Not enough boot for an all-day December sit in the north
- Still heavy for covering ground

- Warmth
- 8.2
- Waterproofing
- 9.4
- Fit
- 8.4

Why sizing up fails
Going up a size adds length and a fraction of width, and it moves the boot's widest point forward of the widest part of your foot. The result is a boot that is too long, pinches in the same place, and lets your heel slip - which adds a blister problem to your original width problem. The American Podiatric Medical Association's footwear guidance makes the same point about shoes generally.
What actually works
- A published wide width (EE/2E, occasionally EEE/3E). Danner, Irish Setter and Rocky offer EE on many models; Irish Setter goes to EEE on some.
- A naturally roomy last. KEEN's lasts are the widest in this registry even in standard width, which is why the Revel 4 is here. Lowa offers a true wide on the Renegade.
- A pull-on with a full-fit last. The Irish Setter MudTrek is a rubber knee boot in a wide - almost unheard of, and the answer if you need width and water depth.
- A thinner insole, which frees a little volume. It will not fix a genuinely narrow last, and it can rescue a boot that is close: the insole guide.
The width conventions, which are inconsistent
| Marking | Men's | Note |
|---|---|---|
| D | Standard | The default, and often the only option |
| EE / 2E | Wide | Widely available from Danner, Irish Setter, Rocky |
| EEE / 3E | Extra wide | Rare in hunting; Irish Setter and work-boot makers sometimes |
| Euro sizing (Crispi, Lowa) | No width letter | Lowa publishes a Wide version; Crispi runs narrow |
Measure your width properly
- Stand on paper with your weight on the foot and trace around it.
- Measure across the widest part - usually the ball, just behind the toes.
- Compare against the maker's own width chart rather than a generic one.
- Measure late in the day, and measure both feet.
The full process, and why afternoon matters, is in the sizing guide.
If the hunting market still does not fit
Two legitimate workarounds. A hiking boot in a true wide - the Lowa Renegade and KEEN options are hiking boots that happen to be good hunting boots in uninsulated conditions: hunting boots against hiking boots. Or a rubber pull-on, which has no laces to pinch across the ball and in the MudTrek's case comes in a wide.
